Good to Know

How to store your cosmetics

Natural & organic cosmetics often contain natural ingredients which are sensitive to environmental factors like temperature, humidity, and light.

Temperature

It's advisable to store your natural & organic cosmetics in a dry, cool place with a temperature ranging between 10-20 degrees Celsius (50-68 degrees Fahrenheit).
Extreme temperatures can affect the stability and efficacy of the product.

Humidity

High humidity levels can introduce moisture into your products, which can lead to bacterial growth or spoilage.
Always keep your cosmetics in a dry environment to prevent these issues.

Sunlight

Direct exposure to sunlight can speed up the aging process of your products, causing them to expire quicker.
The UV rays can break down the active ingredients, making them less effective.

Tips for Proper Storage

Use Original Packaging
Always keep the products in their original packaging, which is designed to protect them from environmental factors.

Tightly Seal Containers
Make sure to close the lids tightly after use to prevent exposure to air and moisture.

Avoid Bathroom Storage
The bathroom is generally humid and can be warm at times, making it an unsuitable storage place for natural & organic cosmetics.

Use Clean Hands or Spatulas
Always use clean hands or a clean spatula to take out the product to prevent contamination.

Check Expiration Dates
Always be aware of the product's expiry date and discontinue use after this period.

Refrigeration
Some products may benefit from being stored in the fridge, especially in hot climates. However, always read the manufacturer's guidelines before doing so.

Incorrect storage conditions

Incorrect storage conditions can lead to:
Reduced efficacy of the product
Altered texture and consistency
Faster expiration
Growth of bacteria or mold

Remember, when in doubt, always refer to the manufacturer's instructions for the best storage practices.

Ingredient Breakdown

Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found primarily in the skin, eyes, and joints, and one of nature's most effective hydrators. It can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water, drawing moisture deep into the epidermis and locking it in for lasting hydration.

Key benefits of hyaluronic acid in skincare:

  • Hydration: Attracts and retains moisture, keeping skin plump and comfortable throughout the day.
  • Skin elasticity: Enhances the skin's firmness and suppleness, contributing to a smoother, more youthful appearance.
  • Anti-ageing: By maintaining moisture levels, it helps reduce the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles over time.
Retinol and retinoids

Retinol and retinoids have earned their reputation as some of the most transformative ingredients in skincare, and for good reason. Backed by decades of science, they accelerate skin cell turnover, stimulate collagen production, and reduce melanin synthesis, addressing everything from signs of ageing to acne.

Retinoids is the umbrella term for Vitamin A derivatives, ranging from prescription-strength options like tretinoin to over-the-counter formulas. Retinol is a milder OTC retinoid that converts into its active form within the skin, making it a gentler but highly effective choice for long-term use.

Key benefits of retinol and retinoids in skincare:

  • Improves texture: Promotes the shedding of dead skin cells and stimulates fresh cell growth for a smoother, more refined complexion.
  • Treats acne: Unclogs pores and reduces inflammation, making them highly effective for managing breakouts.
  • Brightens complexion: Lightens dark spots, sun damage, and hyperpigmentation for a more even skin tone.
  • Anti-ageing: Reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots by promoting collagen production and skin renewal.
  • Refines pores: Consistent use can visibly minimize the appearance of enlarged pores over time.

For best results, introduce retinol slowly into your routine, starting at lower concentrations and always pairing it with SPF.

Bakuchiol

Derived from the seeds and leaves of the Psoralea corylifolia plant, bakuchiol is the plant-based alternative that delivers retinol-like results without the irritation, dryness, or sun sensitivity. Its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties make it a versatile option that works across all skin types, including sensitive skin.

Key benefits of bakuchiol in skincare:

  • Anti-ageing: Stimulates collagen production and promotes skin cell turnover, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Brightening: Improves skin tone and fades dark spots with a lower risk of irritation compared to retinol.
  • Acne care: Combats breakouts with added anti-inflammatory benefits, making it a gentler choice for acne-prone skin.
  • Antioxidant protection: Shields the skin from free radical damage and premature ageing caused by environmental stressors.

Gentle on skin: Well-tolerated by sensitive skin types, with minimal risk of redness, peeling, or increased sun sensitivity.

Niacinamide

Also known as Vitamin B3, niacinamide is a multitasking ingredient that addresses a wide range of skin concerns across all skin types. Water-soluble and highly compatible with other actives, it's one of the most versatile and well-researched ingredients in modern skincare.

Key benefits of niacinamide in skincare:

  • Strengthens skin barrier: Boosts ceramide production to reduce moisture loss and protect against environmental damage.
  • Reduces redness and inflammation: Calms irritated skin, making it ideal for sensitive or acne-prone skin types.
  • Controls oil production: Regulates sebum levels to minimise excess oil and reduce the likelihood of clogged pores.
  • Minimises pores: Regular use can visibly refine the appearance of enlarged pores for a smoother-looking complexion.
  • Brightens skin tone: Fades hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and redness, promoting a more even and radiant appearance.

Peptides

Peptides are short chains of amino acids that serve as the foundation for proteins like collagen, elastin, and keratin, key components that keep skin firm, smooth, and resilient. Think ofPeptides are short chains of amino acids that act as the building blocks for proteins like collagen, elastin, and keratin, the key components responsible for keeping skin firm, smooth, and resilient. Think of them as the messengers that signal your skin to repair, renew, and strengthen itself.

Unlike ingredients that target a single concern, peptides work at a foundational level, making them an ideal addition to advanced skincare formulations.

Key benefits of peptides in skincare:

  • Collagen boosting: Stimulate collagen synthesis to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as natural production declines with age.
  • Barrier repair: Reinforce the skin's protective barrier, locking in moisture and defending against environmental stressors.
  • Improved elasticity: Promote elastin production to help skin maintain its bounce and firmness over time.
  • Targeted treatment: Can be formulated for specific functions, from calming inflammation to reducing dark circles, offering versatility across skincare products.
  • Gentle and compatible: Non-irritating and work seamlessly alongside actives like niacinamide and hyaluronic acid. them as the messengers that tell your skin to repair, rejuvenate, and thrive.
Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA) that has long been a trusted go-to for clearer, smoother skin. It works by penetrating deep into pores to dissolve excess oil and dead skin cells, the main culprits behind breakouts and congestion, while its anti-inflammatory properties help calm redness and swelling.

Key benefits of salicylic acid in skincare:

  • Acne treatment: Effectively unclogs pores, reduces inflammation, and helps prevent new breakouts from forming.
  • Exfoliation: Encourages the removal of dead skin cells, revealing a smoother and more even-toned complexion.
  • Oil control: Regulates excess sebum production to balance the skin and reduce the risk of further pore congestion.
  • Soothing: Calms inflamed skin and minimises the appearance of redness associated with acne and irritation.
Probiotics and prebiotics

As understanding of the skin's microbiome deepens, probiotics and prebiotics are becoming essential players in modern skincare. Probiotics, derived from live beneficial bacteria, work to balance the skin's microbiome, strengthen its natural defences, and create a healthy environment for good bacteria to thrive.

But probiotics work best when they're well-supported. That's where prebiotics come in. These plant-derived compounds feed beneficial bacteria, helping probiotics function more effectively and contributing to a stronger, more resilient skin barrier overall.

Key benefits of probiotics and prebiotics in skincare:

  • Stronger skin barrier: Enhance the skin's natural barrier to prevent moisture loss and shield against external irritants.
  • Brightening effect: Help control melanin production, leading to a more even and luminous skin tone.

Our Practices

Skincare is more than just a routine. It’s a connection people make with themselves.
We are committed to creating products that are effective, but never compromise our health and/or the environment.

The industry

The skincare industry is under-regulated in the US. The European Union
bans or restricts over 1,600 cosmetic ingredients, while the US bans
fewer than 20.

Why does it matter? Responsibility.
Ignoring it leads to packing products with harmful ingredients which, over time, can cause significant health damage. It’s done to save money and/or extend shelf life, often at the expense of consumer safety.

Our commitment

At Veil by Eljay, we don’t use cheap ingredients. We care about the health of our customers and what we put on our skin. That’s why we always share full lists of ingredients for each product and don’t hide behind vague labels such as “proprietary blends".

We follow a Clean Beauty Standard: no-compromise guidelines that every single product in our catalog follows.

100% Cruelty Free

Every product is developed without harming any living creature, now or in the future.

Vegan formulations
